Gather Round: True Stories Told Live

Honey Moon is pleased to introduce Gather Round, a monthly forum for people who love a good story. Inspired by The Moth, the New York-based non-profit that promotes storytelling through live events and weekly radio broadcasts, Gather Round will showcase “true stories, told live.” We believe that nothing binds a community together like shared stories, and we hope this project will prove to be as much about building connections as about the stories themselves.

Storytellers and listeners are invited to Gather Round at the Honey Moon on the last Tuesday of every month. Gather Round is an open mic event: prospective tellers will prepare a story based on that evening’s theme and submit their names before the show starts. The theme for February’s gathering is “Beginnings”; future themes TBA. The rules are simple:

1. Stories must be true and personal, that is, they must be about something that actually happened to the teller.
2. Stories must be performed without notes — no reading!
3. Stories last approximately 5-8 minutes.

We’re committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all sorts of stories to be shared. Funny stories, sad stories, stories about small triumphs or epic defeats; stories about friends, about families, about the search for love or justice; stories about the human condition and how we cope with it on any given day — we all have a story. We’d love to have you Gather Round and share yours!
